Growing up as an asylum-seeking child, it was obvious that I was different and I often felt isolated as a result. Sentiment against asylum seekers was widespread even then and I found myself hiding a significant part of my identity out of embarrassment and fear. It wasn't until my mid-twenties that I began to speak openly about my experiences and embrace my past.

Reflecting on my journey, I feel deep sorrow for the child who endured the asylum process and the teenager who carried the weight of the resulting shame. This personal history fuels my dedication to WAST, an organisation founded by my mother and other remarkable women.

I am committed to helping women and children going through this process and alleviating their suffering, because I know firsthand what it's like. With the help of WAST, I hope our members can find strength, support, and a sense of belonging.
