Statement in response to Manston asylum centre

Over the past few weeks there has, quite rightly, been media attention on the appalling conditions in the Manston asylum processing centre.

The management group for Women Asylum Seekers Together said in response to the ongoing mistreatment of people seeking asylum:

“The situation in Manston is appalling. People arriving to the UK seeking asylum deserve dignity and respect. They are traumatised and they are scared. They have left one hostile environment and are now facing another one. It is not just people in Manston that are trapped, many of the women WAST support are stuck in hotels for months without any support.

“WAST stands in solidarity with the people seeking asylum trapped in Manston, those stuck in unsuitable and unsafe accommodation and those that are held in detention centres across the UK.

“We will use our collective power and raise our voices up to challenge this de-humanising treatment. Asylum is a human right.”

We encourage our supporters and fellow campaigners to join us in St Peters Square, Manchester on Sunday 6 November at 2pm with No Borders Manchester to call for Manston to be shut down and to stand in solidarity with the 4000+ people trapped there. Contact info@nobordersmcr.com if you have questions about attending!
