WAST statement: The death of Awaab Ishak

The WAST management group said in response to the coroners findings into the death of Awaab Ishak:

For too long people seeking asylum have been placed in unsuitable and unsafe housing. The women in our network and their children are stuck in hotels and dangerous accommodation without support or access to proper cooking facilities.

It shouldn’t have taken the death of a child to raise the alarm but this tragic story must act as a catalyst to end the in-humane treatment of asylum seekers and refugees in the UK and ensure our human rights are protected.
